About Jacob:
Jacob is a 15 year old freshman at Granite Hills High School in El Cajon, CA. He is the youngest of 4 boys. Last summer, Jacob, who takes medication for seizures was diagnosed with a heart condition, and after a medical procedure was told that he would no longer need to take the seizure medication or heart medication. In September of his freshman year, Jacob went into cardiac arrest in one of his classes. The nurse and security used an Automatic External Defibrillator on him that saved his life, but he started having seizures and needed to be rushed to Emergency. When the seizures continued, he was put into an induced coma. After being taken out of the coma, Jacob’s doctors began to try to diagnose the problem. Three weeks passed, and the decision was made to implant a defibrillator/pacemaker – not an easy decision when the patient is only 15. Jacob returned to school sometime in October, and struggled to catch up with his school work. Jacob was happy to make an appearance at a benefit sponsored by the Paredes Foundation and at Sea World to work with Project Heart Beat. On December 10th, at Sea World, after the CPR training for 50 kids ages 9 – 13, Jacob’s defibrillator went off 3 times, and he went back to the hospital. They adjusted his heart medication, and sent him home. On Christmas Eve, Jacob was at a family party, and his defibrillator started shocking him again, but this time it went off repeatedly. We again called 911, and he was transported to the hospital once more. His defibrillator had gone off 23 times that night before getting him to the hospital. Cardiologists are trying to determine the next steps. Jacob’s mom was told that she would need to pack her bags because Jacob would probably be hospital bound for quite awhile. We hope to be able to keep in touch with all of our family and friends, and update the news about Jacob through this website. Thank you for all your prayers and well wishes. You can also get in touch with us through Facebook (Michelle Munk Huerta, Richard Huerta, or Ramona Hydroponics) where we will have more information.
