This week, the first professional baseball team officially signed a contract with a CBD company.
April 7, Chicago Cubs announced A partnership with MYND Drinks, a manufacturer of wellness and recovery drinks, makes the hemp-based product the Cubs’ “Official CBD Partner” and the first CBD partner of a Major League Baseball (MLB) club. This is a historic milestone when professional sports began incorporating hemp and marijuana.
Alex Seyfarth, vice president of corporate partnerships for the Chicago Cubs, said: “We are proud to be the first club to partner with a CBD company, but more important to us was making sure the brand was right. It’s a company based, like Friday’s 1:20 game at Wrigley Field, that helps promote overall wellness and ease the stressors of everyday life.”
This partnership opens the door to the world of sports where unapproved drugs and supplements are normally strictly prohibited.
The partnership will include various in-ballpark signage elements, including on-field baseline signage at Wrigley Field and “some in-game features.” The UK is also expected to have its first ever international marketing rights for the club ahead of the 2023 regular season. To kick off the partnership, the Cubs will release today on YouTube a guided meditation narrated by Cubs radio play-by-play announcer Pat Hughes, as well as a Spotify playlist, The Sounds of Wrigley Field.
