Five Ways To Boost Your Endocannabinoid System

leafy vegetables

If you don’t have a good reason already, add more leafy greens to your diet. Studies have shown that leafy vegetables rich in the terpene beta-caryophyllene activate her CB2 receptors in mouse models. Beta-caryophyllene is also thought to have promise in fighting inflammatory conditions and autoimmune diseases. Besides cannabis, beta-caryophyllene is found in broccoli, basil, oregano, rosemary, and many other common spices. Beta-caryophyllene may also reduce paranoia and some of the undesirable effects of cannabis. Alternatively, foods high in fat and carbohydrates appear to have the opposite effect, decreasing CB1 receptor activity.

exercise

Once you exercise, you can’t go back. Please take our word for it. Let’s liven up the runner’s high! Moderate to high-intensity exercise has been shown to increase levels of anandamide, the first endocannabinoid identified, and activate the endocannabinoid system (ECS). Studies have also demonstrated that exercise significantly upregulates CB1 receptor signaling (increases signaling) and increases CB1 receptor sensitivity. Anecdotal reports suggest that 20 minutes or more of vigorous exercise can make a big difference and increase the pleasurable effects of this phenomenon.

omega 3 fatty acids

If you’re not getting high enough, you may not be incorporating enough omega-3 fatty acids into your diet. Studies in mouse models have shown that omega-3 fatty acids increase endocannabinoid synthesis and upregulate both CB1 and CB2 receptors. The downside is that most people may not be getting enough omega-3 fatty acids to make a big difference. However, salmon and cod liver oil contains more omega-3 fatty acids. Stoners should definitely include omega-3 fatty acids in their diet, as some scientists suggest that in their absence, CB1 receptors may not form properly.

cold shower

Cold showers don’t just tighten your pores, they can have other benefits as well. Early evidence from mouse models suggests that exposure to cold has been shown to increase endocannabinoid levels. Researchers observed that cold exposure was significantly associated with increased density of CB1 receptors. Anecdotally, taking a cold shower for at least 30 seconds can help. However, cold showers are somewhat uncomfortable and it will take some practice to get used to continuously bathing him in cold water for 30 seconds. Just say Geronimo and jump in!

reduce stress

Chronic stress can worsen your high even before you smoke, so find ways to reduce stress. Easier said than done, right? Chronic and emotional stress has been shown in rat models to downregulate CB1 receptors. Long-term high cortisol levels, usually caused by stressful environments, have also been shown to significantly reduce the ability of cannabinoids to bind to CB1 receptors. Additionally, researchers say there is evidence to suggest that the ECS needs to be functioning properly to properly cope with stress in the first place. Before starting your session, try meditating or doing another activity to relax.
