How to Make Marijuana Butter

Marijuana butter, also known as “cannabutter,” is the backbone of many cannabis edibles, especially marijuana brownies. Learning how to make marijuana butter opens up a whole new part of cannabis culture. Please note that there are many ways to make marijuana butter, but this is the marijuana butter recipe that my friends and I have refined over the years and that we continue to use to this day. .

Make marijuana butter from flowers and cuttings

In this article, we're going to talk a little bit about weed, but I wanted to share that you can easily and quickly make cannabis butter using whatever dried flowers and trimmings you have on hand. Some people say you should use a grinder for this method, but I actually prefer breaking off the buds or trimming them with my hands or scissors. That way it won't be too difficult to sift through.

Then put the butter on low heat and add the products. Lower the heat slightly to prevent it from boiling. Observe the plant and when it starts to turn brown, it's done. Immediately turn off the heat, strain out as much of the plant matter as possible, and voila, your cannabutter is ready.

Some people will probably criticize this method, but it worked for me in college. It's not perfect, but it gets the job done. And many do not have the coins or the equipment to go to more advanced routes.

Creating cannabutter is a fascinating and fun process that combines culinary skills and an understanding of cannabis' chemical properties. The rest of this guide will cover the essentials of making cannabutter, from understanding what it is to some detailed recipes and even how to measure its potency.

What is cannabutter?

Cannabutter, or hemp-infused butter, is the main ingredient for cooking cannabis edibles. The process of infusing butter with THC-rich cannabis makes it the perfect ingredient for a variety of cannabis recipes. THC, the psychoactive compound in cannabis, binds well to fats, making butter the perfect medium for cannabis infusions.

How is cannabutter used to make edibles?

Cannabutter is the key to turning everyday recipes into moist foods. It can be used in place of regular butter in all recipes, from baked goods like brownies and cookies to savory dishes. Edible potency can be controlled to some extent by changing the ratio of cannabutter to regular butter used in a recipe. If in doubt, always start with a lower value. You can always eat more. And remember that it can take from 30 minutes to an hour for the edible to take effect. It depends on the individual.

I always recommend making “regular” batches of edibles. It's easy to get hungry, but it's not recommended to keep eating medicinal foods. If you don't, you might end up like this cop and his wife (he feels bad for that guy, but it's so bad!)

Brief explanation of decarboxylation reaction

Decarboxylation is a key step in making effective cannabutter. This involves heating cannabis to activate the THC, converting the non-psychoactive compound THCA to psychoactive THC. This process is necessary because THCA does not produce psychoactive effects until it is decarboxylated.

Is decarboxylation necessary?

Yes, decarboxylation is required to make effective cannabutter. Without this process, the THCA in cannabis would not be converted to THC, and cannabis butter would lack the desired psychoactive effects. Click on the link to learn more about decarboxylation.
