nuEra Champaign Dispensary Adds Medical Cannabis For First Time

nuEra Champaign Begins Selling Medical Cannabis

nuEra’s Champaign dispensary added medical cannabis to its menu for the first time on September 10, 2026.

The expansion follows new state regulations that allow any Illinois dispensary to register as a medical cannabis dispensary. The change expands access for medical cannabis patients across the state.

Medical cannabis buyers at the Champaign location will face up to 40% lower cannabis taxes than adult-use purchases. The dispensary will also carry much more cannabis on offer.

Company History in Champaign-Urbana

nuEra has sold medical cannabis in Urbana since 2015, when the company operated under the name NuMed. In 2019, the state granted nuEra a recreational-use cannabis license, ahead of statewide recreational cannabis legalization on January 1, 2020.

The company opened its second location in Champaign 18 months after receiving that license.

The medical expansion coincides with a company milestone. nuEra marks ten years of operation in Champaign-Urbana in 2026.

Leadership on the Expansion

nuEra COO Laura Jaramillo Bernal marked the occasion in a statement. “Ten years in Champaign-Urbana is a big milestone for us, and there’s something really special about celebrating it by expanding medical access and getting back to what brought nuEra into cannabis in the first place,” Jaramillo Bernal wrote.

“A lot has changed in this industry since we opened our doors, but taking care of patients has always mattered to us,” she added. “Now, we can make that experience more accessible, affordable, and convenient, with knowledgeable support, meaningful savings, and more options for patients right here in the community.”

“It feels like a pretty fitting way to start our next ten years,” Jaramillo Bernal wrote. Customers can view nuEra’s expanded menu online for the new medical cannabis offerings.
