Cross-Border Police Seize 119kg Cannabis In Dundalk Operation

A man in his 40s has been charged after a €1.6m (£1.4m) drugs bust following a cross-border police operation. He is one of two men arrested following an investigation that uncovered 119kg (262lb) of cannabis in Dundalk, County Louth, after a car was stopped on Wednesday.

The initial discovery occurred during a joint effort between police and gardaí (Irish police). The operation resulted in the seizure of a significant quantity of controlled substances. Authorities confirmed that the investigation led to the arrest of two individuals in connection with the drug supply.

Follow Up Searches in Newtownabbey

Follow up searches in Newtownabbey, County Antrim, turned up a further 45kg of cannabis. Investigators also recovered half a kilogram of suspected cocaine at the location. The additional findings expanded the scope of the initial seizure in Dundalk.

During the searches, officers found 22 imitation firearms. They also recovered £25,000 in cash. These items were seized alongside the additional drugs found in Northern Ireland.

The total amount of cannabis seized across both sites reflects the scale of the criminal activity.

Court Appearance and Ongoing Investigation

The man charged is due to appear before Cavan District Court on Friday afternoon. The court appearance follows the arrests made during the cross-border operation.

Police and gardaí (Irish police) have said investigations are ongoing. Authorities are continuing to examine the evidence collected during the raids. The operation highlights the collaborative efforts between the two police forces in addressing drug trafficking in the region.
